Slab leaks are sneaky. The pipe is buried under your foundation, you can't see anything wrong, but your water bill keeps climbing and you start noticing warm spots on the floor or the faint sound of running water when everything is turned off. That's usually when homeowners in Arlington call us - and by that point, the leak has often been going on longer than they realize.

This was a hot water slab leak. Those tend to be harder on pipes over time because the heat accelerates wear. Once we pinpointed the exact location, we knew the most practical fix wasn't going to be a slab tunnel - it was going to be an in-wall reroute. That means we trace the line up through the wall, cut precise access points, and reroute the pipe through a new path above the slab entirely. Less concrete work, less mess, and a solid long-term repair.

Our crew opened up the wall in a couple of targeted spots to expose the pipe run. You can see the mix of materials already in there - older copper, PVC, black ABS - which is pretty common in homes that have had work done over the years. Getting in there carefully, making sure we understood exactly what we were dealing with before cutting anything, that's how you avoid making a manageable repair into a bigger headache.

What we focus on during a job like this is keeping the disruption as tight as possible. Drop cloths on the floor, a drying fan running to pull any residual moisture out of the wall cavity, work done in stages so the homeowner knows what's happening at every step. A slab leak repair doesn't have to feel like a disaster - not when it's handled with a plan.

If your water bill has jumped without explanation, or you're noticing warm floors or low pressure on your hot water side, don't wait on it. Slab leak detection and repair is something we do regularly across Arlington, and catching it early almost always means a simpler, less expensive fix.
