A broken sewer cleanout is one of those problems that's easy to overlook - until it isn't. Most homeowners don't think about their cleanout at all until there's a backup or a plumber needs access and can't find it. When something goes wrong with your sewer line, that cleanout is the entry point for diagnosis and service. If it's broken or buried, you've got a problem on top of a problem.

Here's what we were working with on this one - a damaged cleanout that needed to be located, dug up, cut out, and replaced. We used a line locator to pinpoint exactly where the cleanout was before any digging started. That step matters. It saves time and keeps us from doing unnecessary work in the yard.

Once we had the area exposed, we cut out the old broken fitting with a grinder and got down to clean pipe. From there, we installed a new cleanout and raised it above grade. That last part is important. A cleanout that sits below ground level is harder to find and harder to work with. Raising it means any plumber who needs access in the future can find it quickly and get to work without spending time hunting for it.

It's a straightforward repair, but the details make a difference. Proper location work before digging, a clean cut on the existing pipe, and a finished install that's actually usable down the road - that's what separates a repair that holds up from one that causes more issues later. If your sewer line has been acting up or you're not sure where your cleanout even is, that's worth looking into sooner rather than later.
